Ask any kendo practitioner and they’ll tell you – the proper way of measuring for the kendo Bogu set is the first step towards learning this modern, yet ancient Japanese martial art.
Just like any other item in your wardrobe, your kendo equipment must be made only and entirely for you. This way you will be able to move freely and your “guard” parts will be at the right places.
Here is what you need.
– wooden sword or bokuto
– bamboo sword or shinai
– training suits (top and bottom, and
– a set of armour or bogu)
Top wear is called keikogi and bottom is called hakama.
Here’s a demonstration of what you should do and most importantly what you SHOUL NOT do in order to get your measurments right!
