At 53, Mike Tyson can still throw heavy hands and now Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships is ready to offer him a lot of money to see the former boxing champion return to the ring.
On Wednesday, BKFC president David Feldman told MMA Fighting that he has reached out to Tyson in an attempt to bring him into the organization. According to the initial report from Heavy.com, BKFC was willing to pay Tyson $20 million guaranteed for his return to action.
More importantly, Feldman says BKFC just wants to be in business with Tyson in whatever capacity he’d be willing to join the organization.
“The excitement the whole world was getting from Mike’s training videos, led us to make him an offer,” Feldman said in a statement sent to MMA Fighting. “He’s a legend and it’s just a honor to be able to talk with his team.
“We will see where things go from here, it will be an honor to work with Mike in any scenario.”
The recent attention surrounding Tyson stemmed from a training video he posted where he was hitting pads with famed MMA trainer Rafael Cordeiro. In the video, Tyson was slamming punches with speed and ferocity that looked similar to his best days in the ring when he was considered one of the most terrifying heavyweight fighters on the planet.
If Tyson is interested in pursuing a fight with BKFC, the promotion has offered him the chance to choose from any opponent currently on the roster. BKFC currently employs a number of ex-UFC fighters as well as several boxers including Shannon Briggs, who also just recently signed with the promotion.
Tyson hasn’t fought since 2005 when he fell to Kevin McBride after six rounds of action. That marked Tyson’s second straight defeat and third in four fights, which ultimately led to his retirement from the sport
