Khalil Rountree Jr. (14:6) proved some of his critics wrong with his lightweight title challenge against Alex Pereira (12:2) at UFC 307 in Salt Lake City despite the fact that he lost via KO in the fourth round.
The American showed some heart and he pushed the Brazilian in the first two round but later on the low kicks from Poatan slowed him down and he started to feel the one-two combinations from one of the best in the game.
Pereira broke his nose and then he opened a huge cut above his right eye so that blood started flowing to his chest.
Things could have ended early in the fourth round but The War Horse was trying go counter with all he had left. But that is where Alex kept a perfect distance and placement so that he could keep his belt with a magnificent finish.
After the fight Alex Pereira confirmed that the lightweight division is his place despite some rumors that he is going for a heavyweight championship belt.
