Sam Eggington vs Carlos Molina set for May 22nd in Coventry

UK fans in the mood for free boxing are in luck, as Sam Egginton and Carlos Molina are set to duke it out atop a May 22nd Channel 5 broadcast from Coventry.

Eggington (29-7, 18 KO), who’s still just 27 years old despite seemingly being an eternal fixture of the British super welterweight scene, competed six times in 2019 and is 5-1 since a stoppage loss to Liam Smith. That sole defeat came in a competitive, entertaining battle with Ted Cheeseman that proved there was still something left in the tank for “The Savage”, and he was last seen demolishing the remains of Ashley Theophane.

“There’s nothing like a hard Mexican fighter to really get the blood and adrenaline pumping and I can’t wait for this one. Molina is very experienced, he’s a former World Champion, he’s fought everyone and he’s still hungry and ambitious for another World title fight. I like the danger that he brings to the ring which will bring the savage out in me. I’m very close to my own World title fight and I can’t and won’t let Molina wreck that, so I’ll be going all out on him and if the knockout or stoppage comes and I’m the first man to do it to him, then that’s a bonus.”

You may recall Molina (37-11-2, 12 KO) from his 2011 draw with Erislandy Lara or his bogus DQ loss to James Kirkland the following year. He’s still truckin’ at 37, having won his last eight since a 1-5 skid.

Molina said, “My main goal when I started my promotional company was to make my own path to a world title. This is a great test for me and I’m looking forward to being the new WBC Silver Champion. It has come at a perfect time for me, having momentum coming off of eight consecutive wins and also to continue to build King Carlos Promotions by being associated as a promoter for this show.”

The undercard notably sees Kaisee Benjamin (11-1-1, 2 KO) meet Martin Harkin (13-1, 5 KO) in a potential British welterweight eliminator, former British cruiserweight champ Shakan Pitters (14-1, 4 KO) return to action against Jermaine Pitter (7-2, 1 KO), and super lightweight prospect Stephen McKenna (7-0, 7 KO) take on TBA. BoxRec also has TBA fighting Isaac Chamberlain (12-1, 9 KO) and Alex Dilmaghani (19-2-1, 8 KO), but they don’t appear in the press release.
