Sambists from 15 countries to participate in the Pan Am Championships in Colombia

The Pan American SAMBO Championships will be held in the Colombian city of Villavicencio from 16 to 18 July. The competitions will be held in Sports SAMBO (men and women), Combat SAMBO (men and women), as well as in Beach SAMBO (men, women, mixed team tournament). The general partner of the continental championship is Rosneft oil company.

Participants

Applications for participation in the Pan American Championships were submitted by representatives of 15 states: Brasil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela. Sambists from these countries will compete for medals according to the new international SAMBO rules, which began to operate on January 1 of this year. Scoring will be made in accordance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, when the team classification is formed according to the “quality” of the medals won.

Women’s Combat SAMBO

For a long time, international Combat SAMBO competitions were held only with the participation of representatives of the stronger sex. However, the girls from SAMBO demonstrate an enviable fighting spirit and zeal to prove themselves in this tough discipline. The organizers of the tournament went to meet the representatives of the beautiful half of humanity and introduced Combat SAMBO competitions among women into the regulations. Thus, medals at the continental championship will be awarded in the following weight categories:

Sports SAMBO (men): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Sports SAMBO (women): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

Combat SAMBO (men): 58 kg, 64 kg, 71 kg, 79 kg, 88 kg, 98 kg, +98 kg

Combat SAMBO (women): 50 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, +80 kg

Beach SAMBO (men): 58 kg, 71 kg, 88 kg, +88 kg

Beach SAMBO (women): 50 kg, 59 kg, 72 kg, +72 kg

Beach SAMBO (mixed team tournament): men (79 kg, +79 kg) and women (65 kg, +65 kg)

Arena and secure measures

The Pan American SAMBO Championships will be held in Villavicencio at the Table Tennis Coliseum Idermeta, a specialized table tennis arena that will be converted to host a SAMBO tournament. The Beach SAMBO Tournament will take place at the Bosconia Hotel court. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Pan American SAMBO Championships will be held in the so-called “Sanitary Bubble”. The documents of the FIAS Safety Protocol were sent earlier to all the participants of the tournament.
