In what turned out to be one of the most highly anticipated rematches in Bellator history, Sergey Kharitonov (29-6) topped Matt Mitrione (13-7) in the main event of Bellator 225.
The show took place this last night in Connecticut, US. It was the second time the pair met this year. The first bout at Bellator 215 lasted only 15 seconds due to an illegal kick by Mitrione in Kharitonov’s groin.
This time around there were no freakish incidents as everything got settled in the second round when the 39-year-old Russian vet TKO’d his American adversary. Sergey was dictating the actions inside the cage by landing hard shots in his opponent’s head. Mitrione’s mouthpiece hit the canvas 4 times and the ref was about to deduct him a point. But the last time this happened, Kharitonov didn’t stop when his adversary’s mouthpiece was gone and followed his perfect uppercut and knee combo with some mauling on the ground until Dann Miragliotta stepped in and called the fight.
After Matt Mitrione's mouthpiece fell out multiple times, @SergeiKhar finally capitalized for a second-round TKO. #Bellator225 pic.twitter.com/j9qZHaESoR
