Khamzat Chimaev might be the hottest name in the whole UFC for the last two or three months, but he is still far away from the top dogs and the contenders.
Chimaev made his UFC debut in July and now his record is 3-0 and the Swedish fighter is looking to get some big names under his belt.
But that might not be so easy.
There were a lot of reports that the #5 ranked welterweight Stephen Thompson will be the next adversary for Chimaev, but “Wonderboy” isn’t feeling it.
“No, I’m not fighting him, man. I mean, it just doesn’t make sense for me at this point,” Thompson said. “I’m ranked No. 5 to fight a guy who is unranked?
“… I fought a lot of guys to get to where I’m at. And a lot of other fighters fought a lot of guys to get where they’re at so I don’t see why it’s okay for him to jump past everybody.”
Chimaev is scheduled to headline an event against a TBA opponent, at the UFC APEX.
