WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson came out victorious against Felix Caraballo, defeating him in six rounds yesterday in Las Vegas.
The fight night marked the return of pro boxing in the US since the coronavirus pandemic postponed all major sports leagues and events.
The fight was a debut for Stevenson in the above super featherweight category at the MGM Grand Conference Center Grand Ballroom, a behind-closed-door venue, in the first event promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank since lockdown began.
The bout could have been over in the opening round when the American knocked down Caraballo with a body shot. The Puerto Rican boxer managed to get up, but he was no match for Shakur and continued to dominate until the sixth round when two consecutive punches to the body by Stevenson folded Caraballo in agony, and the referee called a halt.
