IBF lightweight titleholder Teofimo Lopez has one goal in mind for his boxing career right now, and it’s a simple one, aided by a graphic inside a tweet:

Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) was expected to face WBA/WBO titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO) in an ESPN pay-per-view main event on May 30 in New York, but that fight’s on hold like everything right now, and was never officially announced.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum recently told us that he’s not going to make a prediction about when the fight will happen, but it’s still in the cards. The biggest obstacle, if the fight and boxing are postponed too long, will be Lopez still being able to make weight. He’s been consistent for months now that he’ll listen to his body, and he initially sad about a year ago that he didn’t think he’d still be able to make 135 after 2020 ended. He more recently has said the only real reason he’s staying at lightweight is to fight Lomachenko.
Hopefully we still get the fight. It’s a fascinating matchup of a powerful, natural, but young lightweight in Lopez against a true pound-for-pound star and beyond world class boxer in Lomachenko, and the personalities mesh to make it a real event, too.
