Three-time world freestyle wrestling champion Bilyal Makhov has tested positive for growth hormone, per TASS.
“We were told that Makhov is accused of doping. I have already met with Bilyal after I received official information. My position is this – I have documents on my table, everything else is just talking”, Mikhail Mamiashvili, President of the Russian Sports Federation said.
“He’s not refusing the possibility of having traces of growth hormone. He told me that his wife takes a complex of medications in which this substance was present. He was tested at his home”, the President of RSF added.
Makhov, 32, has not competed since 2017. The Russian won an Olympic bronze medal in London in 2012. He became the first wrestler in 43 years to win a medal at the world championships in both freestyle and Greco-Roman (the last person to accomplish this was Wilfried Dietrich in 1962).
