A back-and-forth scrap between Ricardo Lamas and short-notice replacement Bill Algeo earned “Fight of the Night” honors at UFC Vegas 8.
UFC commentator and lightweight Paul Felder opined the three-round effort deserved an extra bonus, and the promotion later followed suit after Saturday’s event at UFC APEX in Las Vegas.
Lamas overcame a tough Algeo, who replaced grappling sensation Ryan Hall, to finish strong in the third round for unanimous 10-8 scorecards. Both fighters will now receive $50,000 checks on top of their contracted earnings.
In other bonuses, Mallory Martin rightfully earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her dramatic comeback over Hannah Cifers on the preliminary card. Martin was knocked down and nearly out by a right hand in the first round before taking control on the canvas and securing a rear-naked choke in the second. She let out a guttural scream to celebrate the finish.
The final bonus was handed out to Sean Brady, who picked up his third UFC win with a second-round submission of Christian Aguilera. After a back-and-forth first, Brady took the fight to the canvas and rendered Aguilera unconscious with a guillotine choke. He remains undefeated after 13 pro fights and picked up his first $50,000 performance bonus.
