Former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk knows what it takes to be on the very top of a boxing division.
The 2012 Olympic champion was the undeniable number one in the cruiserweight category for some time before he moved up to the big boys league.
Now Usyk is the WBO mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua and the only real hurdle that could derail a potential mega-fight between the two world heavyweight champions – Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
The negotiations for the super fight are ongoing with Eddie Hearn, Frank Warren, and Bob Arum hoping to get things done for 2021.
If Usyk decides to accept a step aside offer and fight someone else, that will be all the world of boxing wants. Asked who he favors, here is what the Ukrainian said:
“I should say that Tyson Fury is an unpredictable boxer. He has the right mentality and the boxing skills required to beat Joshua,” Usyk told The Sun.
“But it is boxing so I can’t predict what would happen and how such a fight would end. But we will have to wait and see and I would be sure to watch.”
“All four belts might end up in the same hands of one person. It might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. We should all talk and communicate for that to happen because it is a really big event,” Usyk said.
