The upcoming summer rematch between the unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and the former two-time heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua could be headed to the Middle East.
According to Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk the second fight between the Ukrainian and the Brit could very well lad in Saudi Arabia.
Joshua is no stranger to fighting under the Arabian sun, as he reclaimed his unified titles from Andy Ruiz back in 2019 in Riyadh.
“This location is under discussion at the moment,” Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk said to Sky Sports about the rematch with Joshua potentially being staged in Saudi Arabia. “Late June is also the timing we are considering now.
“Many things will depend on how fast we manage to ink the papers,” Krassyuk continued about the Joshua vs. Usyk 2 rematch. “The good thing is that Usyk is already in Europe to start his preparation.”
Initially, there were reports that the rematch will take place either in Ukraine or Great Britain, but now Saudi Arabia has entered the conversation largely due to the fact that both fighters will get paid maybe two or three times the purse they will get in Kyiv or London.
