The World Boxing Council has ordered a fight between Shakur Stevenson and Isaac Cruz. The winner of the bout will become the mandatory challenger to the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Both parties have to sign the paper in order for this fight to materialize, but at this point it’s far from a done deal. Shakur’s promoters Top Rank are also the promoters of Haney and the former unified champion Vasyl Lomachenko and they already intend to match-up Shakur with the winner of the clash between Haney and Loma.
Stevenson will need to stay active though, as Haney and Lomachenko are far from reaching a deal for a fight that could take place at earliest next February.
Pitbull Cruz, 24, has looked sensational in his last three fights against Eduardo Ramirez, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Cruz should have won all three of those fights, as he got the better of Tank Davis in their clash last December at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
