Amazing news for all the boxing fans just came in.
There are serious talks and rumors that Oleksandr Usyk (16-0) will finally step up in the heavyweight world with a match made in heaven. The Ukrainian is about to face Aleksander Povetkin (34-2).
The unified cruiserweight world champion has long expressed his desire to move up in the blue-ribbon division and it seems his debut will be a blockbuster against one of the top dogs.
Usyk, who is currently signed with ‘Matchroom Boxing’ and Eddie Hearn, was seen in action for the last time in November when he demolished Tony Bellew in Manchester.
Povetkin’s last fight, on the other hand, wasn’t that good for him. The Russian vet went directly for Anthony Joshua’s head in their September meeting, but he gassed himself and got KO’d in the 7th round.
But that’s not all! There is one particular detail in the rumors, that is raising eyebrows – the suggested date for the fight is 18th of May.
That is the exact same date that Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury’s rematch will probably take place and if it’s so – we got ourselves one of the craziest nights in the history of boxing.
If Usyk and Povetkin’s teams arrange a deal, this will be the first time that the American public will have the chance to watch Povetkin live.
