ADCC champion Kaynan Duarte will be joining the fray at 3rd Coast Grappling‘s upcoming 3CG 6 event.
The promotion announced today that Duarte is confirmed for the event, which will feature an eight-man Grand Prix tournament. The first-place winner will take home a cool $15,000, and the runner-up will win $5,000.
Duarte is the second athlete to be announced for the competition; Nicky Rodriguez was the first to be named a few days ago.
In addition to winning the +99kg division at ADCC in 2019, Duarte is also a Pans and Abu Dhabi World Pro champion. He also won the super heavyweight division at No-Gi Pans last year and closed out the absolute category with teammate Lucas Barbosa.
This will be Duarte’s 3CG debut, and with Rodriguez also confirmed for the bracket, it opens up the possibility for an exciting rematch. It was Rodriguez that Duarte faced in the finals at ADCC a year and a half ago, with Duarte taking home the gold with a 3-0 points lead. They had their first rematch soon afterward at F2W 128, where Duarte again took home the win, this time by heel hook. But it’s been over a year since then, and both athletes have had time to develop their games and make improvements. There’s no telling what might happen if they meet again at 3CG 6.
