Floyd Mayweather’s purported plans for a 2020 comeback are reportedly off the table. According to TMZ, “Money” is “likely” to sit the year out after a bevy of personal tragedies.
In addition to the January death of Kobe Bryant, whom Mayweather considered a friend, the last 10 days have seen the mother of three of his children, Josie Harris, be found dead in her car and his uncle Roger Mayweather succumb to a long battle with diabetes. Even a man legendary for “hard work and dedication” would be hard-pressed to compete at his best in such circumstances.
There was as yet no word as to whom he’d face upon his return; Mayweather has teased another bout with a UFC competitor since his dominant and insanely lucrative victory over Conor McGregor, and lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has been vocal about his desire to throw down with “Money” in the squared circle.
