Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson believes Floyd Mayweather has good chances to become a top dog in training boxers.
Recently, Mayweather revealed that he wants to train fighters – in honor of the recent passing of his uncle and former head coach – Roger Mayweather.
“As many of you know, I’ve had incredible trainers which included my dad and uncle. Due to the recent passing of my Uncle Roger, I’ve felt inspired to help those around me the same way they have been there for me throughout my boxing career,” Mayweather stated.
“In a time where we must distance ourselves from others, it has allowed me to reflect on how I want to make a difference in people lives and help them achieve their goals. A true trainer wants the best out of their fighter and pushes them to the best of their abilities.”
“I want to leave an impression on those around me and allow them to see their potential. I am new at training and so far I’ve been working with people with no boxing experience, therefore we are growing together. But I promise you, I will be one of the best trainers in the world.”
Most of the top trainers in the sport of boxing were not even close to the level of Mayweather.
“Mostly, the guy that’s the great trainer is not the great fighter and that’s why he becomes the great trainer,” Tyson tells TMZ.
Tyson believes Mayweather could make the transition.
“I give Floyd a good chance because Floyd’s a gym rat, that’s all he does. You see him in the club for one week but he’s in the gym every day for 25 years. Even when he goes out and party, he’s back in the gym the next day. He does it in his sleep, this is what he do. His lifestyle is predictable to a long duration athletic range.”
