Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk is the new Inter-Continental WBO heavyweight champion following his victory over Britain’s Derek Chisora.
Usyk beat Chisora after the fight went the distance and the three judges gave 117-112, 115-113, and 115-113.
The former unified cruiserweight champion was moving with grace and picking his punches while Chisora went for the kill from the beginning.
The Brit was always looking the cut the distance and he was throwing some heavy shots to the body and the head of his adversary, but Usyk seemed poised and collected for the most rounds.

Following the first three rounds that were all Chisora, Usyk started to use his jab more preciscly. The footwork of the Ukrainian fighter was once again on point, as he was cutting angles and landing from unexpected places.
As the fight went on, Chisora started to breathe heavily and his punches didn’t have the explosive power from the first rounds. At times the haymakers of Chisora were landing on Usyk which once again propel the question about his size.
With this win, Usyk, 33, remains mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua’s WBO belt and, while he may not have found the eye-catching knockout win fans so often long for at heavyweight, his skill set is obvious.
