WBO welterweight world champion Terence Crawford believes he doesn’t need to chase a potential unification fight with the IBF and WBC welterweight king Errol Spence Jr.
With the exception of Tyson Fury – Anthony Joshua, Crawford – Spece is the most anticipated fight in all of boxing for the last couple of years. Unfortunately, the politics of the sport are not allowing this to happen, because managers and TV broadcasters are not doing what they suppose to – to give the fans the best fights.
Of course, there is hope for such a fight to be made, but the probability is we’ll have to wait at least until 2022.
Crawford is fresh off a 4th round victory over Kell Brook, while Spence is putting his titles on the line against Danny Garcia on December 5th.
“It’s not that important,” said Crawford when asked how important is a fight between him and Errol Spence. “I don’t need Errol Spence for my legacy. I don’t know why people keep making it seem like I need Errol Spence. He needs me, I don’t need him,” said Crawford.
Terence’s promoter – Bob Arum, made a stupid statement after the Kell Brook fight that “Bud” needs to promote himself more and everybody jumped at the legendary manager. Now, listening to the stuff Crawford is saying, maybe we were too harsh on the old man.
“If he feels that way, he can release me now,” said Crawford. “He can just release me. If you feel that I’m not an asset to your company, release me right now.
“You don’t have to wait until after the [Errol] Spence fight. Why do you have to wait until after the Spence fight? Release me now, and you don’t have to lose money no more. If I’m such a loss and a headache,” said Crawford.
