Fight fans will have to wait a little bit more in order to see Yoel Romero’s debut in Bellator MMA.
The veteran had to face former UFC colleague Anthony Johnson this Friday at Bellator 258 main event. The pair was scheduled to fight in the Bellator Light Heavyweight World Grand Prix quarterfinals, but the former UFC title challenger didn’t clear pre-fight medical screening.

Bellator officials declared they are searching for a new opponent for “Rumble” who is also making his debut under the promotion’s banner.
The Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation conducted the pre-fight medical screening for this event. A request for comment to department director Mike Mazzulli was not returned Thursday night.
Romero’s co-manager Malki Kawa of First Round Management tweeted Thursday night when CBS Sports broke the news, that Romero would “be back very soon.”
The 37-year-old Johnson hasn’t fought since 2017 when he got beat by Daniel Cormier. Romero, 43, was last seen inside the cage in March 2020 when Israel Adesanya defeated him.
