Polaris Professional Jiu Jitsu was established in 2015 and has since become the premier professional grappling show in Europe. The promotion has featured some of the top grapplers and mixed martial arts fighters in the world, including Keenan Cornelius, Dean Lister, Rousimar Palhares, Garry Tonon, Michelle Nicolini, Kit Dale, and many others.
Polaris 17 will take place on October 9th and as officials have informed Bloody Elbow, it will be headlined by two of the top grapplers in the middleweight division, Craig Jones and Davi Ramos.
Craig Jones gained notoriety in the grappling world following a 2017 ADCC performance where he submitted Leandro Lo and Murilo Santana. Craig was able to build on that performance for the 2019 ADCC, ultimately taking 2nd place after a close final with Matheus Diniz. In addition to his success on the competition scene, Craig has also been leading his new Austin, Texas based team. The “B-Team” was established in August 2021 after the Danaher Death Squad went their separate ways. Jones represented the DDS after dropping three matches to DDS standout Gordon Ryan. He is currently undefeated in his last six matches, scoring wins over Roberto Jimenez and Ronaldo Junior, among others.
Davi Ramos made his name competing on the professional gi and no-gi jiu-jitsu circuits, a run that culminated in a 2015 ADCC World Championship title. Davi won the final against Lucas Lepri with a flying arm bar. After winning the biggest no-gi title in the world, Davi began to focus more on MMA, fighting in both Bellator and the UFC. Ramos has compiled a 4-3 UFC record as a lightweight, one of the promotion’s most talent rich divisions. Despite his busy MMA schedule, he has competed twice in 2021 in jiu-jitsu against Pedro Marinho and Dante Leon, respectively.
The winner of Jones vs. Ramos will be the new Polaris middleweight champion, a title Craig won back at Polaris 6 in February 2018 with a win over Jake Shields. Jones is a master at the leg lock game while Ramos is known for his explosive guard passing and attacks. Look for Jones to try to enter into Ramos’ legs and catch a heel hook while Ramos attempts to counter with his dynamic movement and guard passing skills.
