Brazil and the United States dominated the medal table with five gold medals each.
The final day of action from Punta del Este was centred on team categories and Para-Karate competitions. Peru were the big winners in the Team Kata competition as the representatives of the South American country won gold in both Male and Female Team Kata categories.
The squad formed by Rosa Almarza, Sol Maria Romani and Saida Karlen Salcedo took the flag of Peru to the top of the podium after beating Brazil in the final of Female Team Kata. The team of Peru received a score of 25.88 with “Gojushiho Dai” kata for 24.68 of Brazil.
In Male Team Kata the victory also went to Peru, with the side formed by Oliver del Castillo, Carlos Lam, and John Trebejo. The Peruvian squad also defeated Brazil in the final. The new continental champions received a score of 25.4 with “Unsu” kata for 24.06 of Brazil.
Meanwhile, in the Team Kumite competition the victory in both Male and Female categories went to Brazil. The Brazilian squad upset Venezuela 2-0 in the final of Female Team Kumite while the Brazilian representatives defeated USA 3-1 in the final of Male Team Kumite.
THRILLING PARA-KARATE
The 2021 PKF Championships also made history for the sport as the event gave Para-Karate athletes from the Americas the chance to showcase their abilities and fight for the continental crowns.
In the Blind/Visually Impaired categories, the title went to Anastasia Hayes of the United States while Natalie Olson of Canada and Cristian Reyes of Chile became continental champions in Intellectually Impaired.
The crowns in Wheelchair User went to Darien Paula Ulloa of Chile and Jaime Ruiz of Brazil.
After three competition days, the delegation of Brazil topped the final medal table with 15 medals and five golds, followed by the United States with 13 medals and five golds, and Chile with 14 medals and four golds.
