WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford made a statement in his last night’s title defense against former welterweight king Shawn Porter.
Crawford got the W via TKO in the 10th round in a competitive fight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. Porter’s father and corner man Kenny Porter threw in the white towel after Shawn got dropped twice in the 10th.
Many of the rounds were hard to judge, as both fighters were landing and pushing forward. The champions was hitting Porter with some very hard shots, while the challenger was relying on quantity.
In the 1oth round, Crawford nailed Porter with a perfect shot that dropped him. Porter got back to his feet but was dropped a second time.
At this point, Porter’s trainer had the fight stopped, which was obviously disappointing because he looked like he was still cogent and ready to continue.
Porter’s cardio was fading away in the later rounds, as the champion looked way fresher, with Crawford being ahead on all three of the judges’ scorecards at the time of the stoppage:
- 86-85
- 86-85
- 87-84
