According to Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor is at a crossroads in his life.
‘The Notorious’ is being sued for destroying a man’s smart phone outside a nightclub in Miami and, prior to that, the Irishman suffered the biggest defeat of his career against Khabib Nurmagomedov, losing via fourth-round submission in last year’s blockbuster main event at UFC 229.
Stallone who, as well as being an avid fight fan owns a minor stake in the UFC, offered McGregor some words of advice in a recent interview with TMZ Sports.
The 72-year-old said McGregor needs overcome his fear of beating Nurmagomedov if he is to ever find inner peace and cement his legacy as one of the greatest of all time.
“This is a crossroad in his life,” Stallone said. “If he can’t overcome his fear and beat this man, I think it’ll plague him for the rest of his life.”
“I think [Conor] lost last time because he got resentful, he got prideful, he got arrogant … put his hands down … he walked right up to that gentleman and he just got smashed in the face when he could have been defensive. There was no Plan B. Not even a Plan A minus.”
Asked how McGregor should conduct himself in the midst of his current legal case, Stallone advised the Dubliner to ‘keep smiling.’
“Keep smiling. You can’t critique a smile,” he said.
Although McGregor is embroiled in yet more controversy outside the cage, the 30-year-old is expected to return to the Octagon in July, although no opponent has been announced.
