The Interim WBC world heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte (26-1) is the latest boxer who has tested positive for a banned substance. The “A” sample was taken prior to his last fight against Columbia’s Oscar Rivas.
Whyte is in the WBC Clean Boxing Program which is administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), but the test in question was administered by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD).
According to British sources, Whyte’s camp, Matchroom Boxing and the British Boxing Board of Contro knew about the situation prior to the bout itself, but BBBofC allowed the fight to go on as scheduled.
The 31-year-old has the right to appeal, according to the rules in the UK. UKAD takes the position that, until the adjudication process is over and due process is complete, there has not been a finding that a fighter is in breach of its PED protocols and no sanctions can be put in place by the BBBofC.
The adjudication process normally begins with the opening of sample “B”, but nobody really knows when this is going to happen. “The Body Snatcher” was previously suspended from boxing for two years after he got caught with Methylhexaneamine in 2012.
