Golovkin eyes a fight in Tokyo

Gennadiy Golovkin is already looking for his next challenge after the fight with Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

“GGG” is more than keen on traveling to Japan for a potential bout with Ryota Murata.

“One-hundred percent. Absolutely, I am open for this,” Golovkin said through a translator Thursday before a press conference for his fight versus Derevyanchenko. “And, of course, we already made a first step with a world championship. And absolutely, I’m looking forward. It’s very, very important. I’m sure it’ll be a great fight.” As a potential venue for the fight, there have been suggestions that it might be haled at Tokyo Dome which has the capacity of almost 60 000. If such a bout is negotiated, it could be a middleweight title unification bout between Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs), who would hold the IBF title, and Murata (15-2, 12 KOs), who owns the WBA’s secondary championship.
