Errol Spence Jr. (26-0) kept his undefeated pro record following his last night victory against Shawn Porter (30-3-1) at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The welterweight unification bout lived up to the hype, as both boxers gave everything they got. Spence is now the IBF and WBC welterweight king, as he got the W via SD (116-111, 116-111, 112-115).
The 31-year-old Porter came into the fight as the underdog, but he was the one getting the better out of his opponent in the early rounds. Even though Spence Jr. had the reach and size advantage, “Showtime” was moving good enough to land nice jabs. Porter wanted a phone booth fight and he was doing just that, throwing powerful body shots on the inside.
Errol Spence took control of the bout as time went by and he started mixing it up, landing from distance and keeping Porter on his back foot. Spence’s jab was working great in the late rounds and Porter couldn’t defend himself properly.
It was still a close fight, as nobody was having a dominant performance, but then the 11th round came. Both fighters were exchanging, but the taller Spence used his reach advantage and landed a left hook right in the face of Porter and his glove touched the mat which automatically counted as a knockdown.

After the fight, the 29-year-old Spence Jr. said that he wants to fight the WBA regular and WBA “Super” welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, but a rematch between those two would make sense since it was such a great boxing experience.
