WBO world middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (28-0) retained his belt, defeating Maciej Sulecki (28-2) via UD at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
The 31-years-old champ dropped the challenger in the opening round, but he couldn’t capitalize on the momentum and went to defense mode for the remained of the bout. “Boo Boo” was throwing a lot of shots, but Sulecki was doing a nice job avoiding them and if he was a bit more aggressive he could turn the table.
Andrade’s cardio wasn’t at it’s best, as the American was unable to recover quickly and his offense often struggled. The 30-years-old Sulecki had his moments thanks to his nice jab, but in the end, Andrade got the decision (120-107, 120-107 and 120-107).
It definitely wasn’t a top-notch performance by the champ who will need to rethink his desire to face Saul Alvarez, who is way faster and powerful than both Andrade and Sulecki.
