The undisputed super middleweight champion of the world Saul Alvarez is the 2021 “The Ring” Fighter of the Year. Canelo managed to unify all the belts in the 76 kg division becoming the first ever to do so in this category and the first undisputed Mexican champion.
Alvarez, 31, defeated Turkey’s Avni Yildirim in February via RTD. Then he beat Britain’s Billy Joe Saunders in May via RTD once again and after that he TKO’d Caleb Plant in November to get all the 4 belts in the super middleweight category.
The Mexican superstar is being voted Ring’s Fighter of the Year for a second time, with his first coronation being in 2019.
“For me it’s an honor. Like I always say, I love boxing. I do this because I love boxing, and whatever is coming is an honor for me,” Alvarez told The Ring. “It’s a bonus for me because I love this sport. I respect this sport and I always try to do my best in boxing.
“I feel great. I feel blessed, because at the end of the day, I want to make history in my career. And so I feel blessed. I feel so good about this. This is the second, but I hope there are many more to come.”
