After reports broke that Claressa Shields was set to take on Marie-Eve Dicaire for the undisputed junior middleweight title on May 9th, it’s now being reported that the fight has officailly been postponed over coronavirus concerns. Salita Promotions made that announcement yesterday, per an ESPN report.
“Unfortunately, the real fight is outside the ring right now,” promoter Dmitriy Salita said. “Once our invisible opponent is beaten, we can get back to watching two undefeated champions and the two best [junior middleweights] in the world vie for the undisputed world title as Claressa Shields continues to build her incredible legacy in female boxing.”
Sailta hopes to announce the rescheduled date for the fight in short order but given all the uncertainty in the sport right now it’s not clear when that might happen. For now those who’ve already purchased tickets will be able to get a refund or use them for the rescheduled date.
