Derrick Lewis receives first stripe on his BJJ blue belt (VIDEO)

Former UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis has earned his first blue belt stripe following his last victory over Aleksei Oleinik at UFC Vegas 6.

Lewis, 35, is now on a three-fight winning streak, and his BJJ instructor – Joe Murphy of Renzo Gracie Houston, has decided to reward his student with the first stripe on his BJJ blue belt.

“I’ve had the privilege to work with @thebeastufc for his last 2 fights and am very proud of the progress he’s made and the effort he’s focused on improving his grappling. We’re just getting started! I have no doubt that this man is a future UFC heavyweight world champion.”

Lewis’s grappling is far from perfect. “The Black Beast” has only one victory via submission and it dates back to 2010.
