Eddie Hearn believes a domestic blockbuster of his client Anthony Joshua with Tyson Fury is simply too big of a fight not to happen in the future.
Joshua was outboxed over twelve rounds last September, when he fought Oleksandr Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
On a date in April or May, Joshua will attempt to reclaim the WBO, WBA, IBO, IBF heavyweight titles when he faces Usyk in a contracted rematch.
Fury aims to defend his WBC heavyweight crown on March 26. The opponent is potentially going to be mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.
The other options are Robert Helenius, Andy Ruiz and Manuel Charr.
Whether or not there are titles at stake, Fury vs. Joshua is still one of the biggest fights to made in the sport – and certainly the biggest on UK soil.
“I think the AJ -nFury fight is still the fight,” Hearn said to The DAZN Boxing Show. “I had a guy come up to me today and ask ‘when’s AJ fighting Fury’. I’m kind of like ‘well that ship’s sailed a little bit, we’ve got a few things to work out still, and AJ is rematching Usyk’.”
“And the guy says ‘oh is he? Well when’s the Fury fight then?’ That’s the fight that people still want to see and will always be there. The bigger the better. That fight, I promise you, will happen, whether that’s late this year or early next year. Fury vs. AJ is a dead cert to happen because it’s too big a fight not to.”
