Five division world champion Floyd Mayweather would like to a see a big showdown between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and David Benavidez.
Earlier this month, Canelo knocked out Caleb Plant to become the undisputed world champion at super middleweight.
Mayweather would like to see him stick around at 168 to face Benavidez.
“We like Canelo Alvarez, but Gervonta Davis, Errol Spence, Terence Crawford – there are so many other great fighters out there. David Benavidez is a hell of a fighter also; that’s a good test for Canelo,” Mayweather said, according to The Sun.
“Canelo looked superb the other night. He went out there, and he went out there, and he done his job and did what he’s supposed to do as a fighter. We had a chance to clash [in 2013], two undefeated fighters, and we gave people what they wanted to see.”
Still, a fight between Benavidez and Canelo will not happen soon.
Last week, the World Boxing Council approved Canelo’s request to make a tremendous jump in weight to challenge WBC cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu.
Canelo would like to stage the fight with Makabu in May.
