IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin will be facing WBA regular champion Ryoto Murata this upcoming April 9th. The unification bout will take place in Saitama, Japan.
ESPN is reporting the Golovkin-Murata fight is official for April 9th in Murata’s home country of Japan. It’ll be a must-win fight for GGG, who turns 40-years-old a day before the battle on April 8th.
If Gennady manages to get the W , he’ll be able to secure a third fight against Canelo Alvarez later in 2022 or in early 2023.
Golovkin hasn’t fought since December 2020 when he beat Poland’ s Kamil Szeremeta via RTD.
Murata, 36, is an Olympic champion from 2012. The Japanese fighter was last seen in action in December 2019 when he defeated Canada’s Steven Butler.
