Jon Jones claims he will vacate his UFC light heavyweight title

The UFC might need a new UFC light heavyweight champion.

Jon Jones, who has feuded with UFC President Dana White publicly over the past couple of days, admitted Sunday evening that he’s done with the title.

According to sources speaking to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin on Sunday, Jones is ‘serious’ about vacating the light heavyweight title after this public spat with White. The situation is still evolving and cooler heads could eventually prevail but for now Jones appears ready to surrender the belt he’s defended more than any other 205-pound fighter in UFC history.

The argument between Jones and White began over a possible showdown between Jones and heavyweight star Francis Ngannou and what Jones should be paid for the potential clash.

White claimed Jones wanted $30 million for the fight against Ngannou, but Jones balked at the number, and suggested on multiple occasions that the UFC release him if they didn’t consider him to be that valuable.

Jones even suggested a new clash for the light heavyweight title between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz, and a possible return date.
