During this chat with Fight Hub TV, junior lightweight titleholder Joseph Diaz Jr. talks about a much anticipated showdown between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez. During the talk Diaz explains why he wants Lopez to win and how he has the style and physical attributes to pull it off. Check out what he had to say below…
Diaz on the planned Lomachenko-Lopez fight:
“I don’t know man, I hope Teofimo knocks him too, I don’t like Lomachaneko that much. I just think he’s too cocky and too arrogant. I’m really hoping for Teofimo Lopez. I hope he knocks him out and he has a good chance on knocking him out because of his style, he’s very elusive and he’s very powerful and he’s a good counterpuncher too.
“So I think the overwhelm-ness and the angles might frustrate Teofimo Lopez…but I think if he’s able to catch him with some decent shots then he could actually hurt Lomachenko because he is the bigger guy and he has more size and he’s strong and he’s fast. It’s not like he’s strong and he’s slow, he has everything. He has the elusiveness, he has all the tools to actually beat Lomachenko.
“I mean, Lomachenko, we’ve seen him get hurt before by Jorge Linares. We’ve see him catch some decent shots so it’s not like he’s unbeatable. I mean, he’s human just like us. He could be beat, it’s just a matter of going in there with a good game plan and fighting very very smart that night.
“What Lomachenko does is he becomes the hunter right away. So he’s always on offensive mode and he’s always keeping you on your toes and when he keeps you on your toes like that he gets you tired because when you’re constantly tense thinking that punches are coming and thinking he’s moving everywhere, you’re losing a lot of energy because that’s unnecessary energy instead of being relaxed and calm. And Jorge Linares was a lot calm, that’s how he actually knocked down Lomachenko…”
