Kell Brook claims he can make 66 kg., wants Keith Thurman or Terence Crawford

Despite apparently finding a home at 154 pounds after losses to Gennadiy Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr., Kell Brook has his sights in welterweight standouts Keith Thurman and Terence Crawford. He tells Sky Sports that he’d be able to make 147 to challenge for Crawford’s title by October or November.

“I’m staying busy and ready. I’m going to put myself in the best position for when things come back to normal. I’m very keen on fighting Crawford. I think Keith Thurman has spouted that he would love the British pound. He’d like the fight, so I’m keeping myself active in Fuerteventura with Josh Taylor, Billy Joe. … I’m very light. I don’t like to say what weight I am, but I’m very light, especially for me having no date. If it’s Crawford, he’ll be defending his title, so it will be 147. Thurman, it could be a catchweight. I can be ready for October, November for 147.”

Neither option is necessarily outside the realm of possibility. Thurman (29-1, 22 KO) has been jawing with Brook recently and Top Rank began negotiations for Brook (39-2, 27 KO) to face Crawford (36-0, 27 KO) before “pausing” them in May. Frankly, though, I’d just be happy to see any of them in the ring. Thurman missed all of 2018 and hasn’t fought since falling to Manny Pacquiao almost exactly a year agoBrook ended a 14-month layoff in February, and Crawford followed up a flaccid 2019 by announcing his willingness to sit out all of 2020 rather than fight behind closed doors for reduced pay.
