Legendary boxing referee passes away

One of the biggest names in the world of boxing referees – Eddie Cotton, has passed away at the age of 72 this past Saturday.

According to his wife, Cotton spent the last two weeks in a hospital because he got pneumonia and shortly after that he tested positive for the COVID-19.

Cotton was a professional referee for 22 years – from 1992 to 2014. The American is famous for being the third person in the ring alongside Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis back in 2002.

Cotton referred to one of the biggest stars in boxing – George Foreman, Shannon Briggs, the Klitschko brothers, Ruslan Chagaev, Tyson Fury, Steve Cunningham, Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Bernard Hopkins, Riddick Bowe, Andrew Golota and many more.

After he retires from pro referring in 2014, he joins the IBF’s board of members.
