Olympic judo champion stripped of gold for doping

2016 Olympic gold medalist in judo Rafaela Silva was stripped of her gold medal she captured at the 2019 Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru.

The Brazilian has tested positive for PEDs. Silva claimed the first place in the -57 kg division, the same category in which she triumphed at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016. She can still appeal the decision.

The judoka got caught with fenoterol, a drug used to treat asthma. She blamed her frequent contact with a 7-month-old baby that suffers from asthma for the doping result.

Six other athletes had also tested positive for banned substances at the in-competition tests.
