Sergey Kovalev “ready” for Dmitry Bivol

WBO world light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (33-3-1) took it to Instagram to congratulate and challenge his fellow countryman Dmitry Bivol (16-0-0).

Last weekend, Bivol made his 4 straight successful WBA title defense, defeating Joe Smith Jr via UD.

Bivol’s manager has previously stated that the 28-year-old Russian would love to face Kovalev in a unification bout later this summer in the US.

There is a big chance both fighters will have to wait at least 5 months for a potential showdown because Bivol has a mandatory challenger in Marcus Brown (23-0-0) and it’s highly possible that WBA will order the fight in the next weeks. Kovalev, on the other hand, has recently recaptured his WBO belt after a great fight with the Colombian Eleider Alvarez and there might be an even bigger payday for a third bout between these two.

A potential clash between Kovalev and Bivol won’t be the easiest fight to make, because Kovalev is signed with Top Rank/ESPN while Bivol is with Matchroom Boxing USA/DAZN, but Eddie Hearn said that he wouldn’t have any problems with ESPN broadcastin the fight.
