The Japan Sumo Association has released the dates for the six major tournaments that will take place in 2023.
The year kicks off on January 8 with the initial competition New Year Basho at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. The competition ends on January 22. The rankings for the tournament will be released on December 26.
The Spring Basho is set from March 12 to March 26 at the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. The rankings for the tournament will be released on February 27.
The Summer Basho will take place from May 14 to May 28 at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, with the official ratings to be released on May 1.
Nagoya Basho will be held from July 9 to July 23 at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium in Nagoya. Ratings for the event will be announced on June 26.
The last two elite competitions – the Autumn Basho and the Kyushu Basho are set for September 10-24 and November 12-26. The Autumn Basho will be held at Ryogoku Kokugikan, while the last event for 2023 is set for Fukuoka Kokusai Center in Fukuoka.
