Tinko Banabakov (52 kg), who won a bronze medal at the 2018 EUBC European Union Elite Men Boxing Championships in Spain is out of the international ‘Strandja Memorial Tournament’ in Sofia after a tough loss in the first round.
Banabakov faced Khudoynazar Fayzov (UZB) who is one of the biggest boxing rising stars in Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek won by SD, as three of the judges had him the winner of the bout.
Both guys started the fight with some big right ones and it seemed that Banabakov was the one that was bringing the fight to his opponent. That wasn’t the case in the second and the third round tough – the Bulgarian went to defense mode and the Uzbek landed some hard shots to the body and evidently, that was enough for the judges to crown him the winner.
Peter Draganov (69 kg) also lost his opening fight. Draganov squared up with Filip Wachala (POL). The match was super close to the very end and it could go both ways, but the ringside judges backed the guest with 3:2 split decision.
Draganov was the only Bulgarian to compete in the 69 kg category.
