Turkish Olympic wrestling champion passes away

Bayram Sit, a 1952 Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling, passed away on May 29 at the age of 89.

Sit was one of the best wrestlers in Turkish history. He competed in the featherweight division. After claiming gold at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, he added a silver medal at the 1954 World Championships. In 1956, Sit placed fourth at the Olympic Games in Melbourne.

After he was done with his active career, Sit became coach of the national Turkey wrestling team. Later he trained the French national team and helped them claim numerous medals from European and World championships.

The Olympic multiple medalist was buried in the Karşıyaka memorial cemetery.
