The UFC will be very busy in the month of August.
On Wednesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission officially approved a total of nine dates for the promotion including five regular events and four dates for the return of Dana White’s Contender Series.
While the dates are now confirmed, the UFC hasn’t officially announced many of the fights outside of the UFC 252 main event trilogy between heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
When it comes to the regularly scheduled UFC events, first up will be the show on Aug. 1, which is expected to be headlined by a women’s bantamweight fight between former champion Holly Holm and fast rising contender Irene Aldana.
Then comes the Aug. 8 card with heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Aleksei Oleinik on tap for the main event.
UFC 252 is expected to take place on Aug. 15 with Miocic vs. Cormier headlining and several other fights in the works including another heavyweight fights between former champion Junior Dos Santos and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
From there, the UFC moves to Aug. 22 but as of yet there has been no main event confirmed for that show.
The final UFC event for the month will take place on Aug. 29. with a main event still to be determined for that show as well, although several bouts are confirmed including a light heavyweight clash between Anthony Smith and Aleksander Rakic.
Wednesday’s hearing also officially approved the return of the Contender Series on Tuesday nights.
The first card will take place on Aug. 4 with shows following each week on Aug. 11, Aug. 18 and Aug. 25. As previously reported by MMA Fighting, the latest season of the Contender Series is expected to run through September and the first two weeks of October.
