Wilder: My mindset is way stronger than Anthony Joshua’s

The heavyweight megafight between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua never came to pass before one of them was handed a loss — Anthony Joshua — and Wilder believes that’s just proof positive that Joshua isn’t built with the mental fortitude that he has.

“Me and Joshua have a different mindset. Mine is strong, way stronger than his,” Wilder said.

Wilder would continue by pointing out the instance where Joshua allowed Ruiz to hold the world title belts during a press conference leading into their fight over the summer.

“Joshua knew he would lose one day,” Wilder said. “When it was time he handed his belts over to Ruiz Jr – he literally transferred the belts to this man.

“For me? My mindset is different. I’m a totally different king, a totally different beast.”

The WBC titleholder then said that he doesn’t go into fights worrying about making mistakes, saying that he’s sure to correct any errors along the way, during a fight.

But in the meanwhile, despite whatever banter emerges from the two heavyweights on opposite sides of the Atlantic, a fight between them seems further away than ever before. Joshua desperately needs to win his three world titles back against Andy Ruiz this December, while Wilder is set to take on Luis Ortiz followed by Tyson Fury in early 2020.
