Here’s the full WKF’s statement:

The decision has been taken after thorough deliberation in accordance with the local organizers of the Turkish Karate Federation and Turkish authorities as the pandemic continues spreading worldwide. The final resolution to cancel the event had been pending while the developments on the COVID-19 outbreak were continuously being monitored. However, the ongoing situation of the global pandemic makes it impossible to celebrate the event with enough guarantees to ensure the safety of athletes, staff members, and fans.

Programmed to be held from June 19 to 21, the Karate 1-Series A Istanbul was the second stop of the calendar of the 2020 Karate 1-Series A after the successful tournament in Santiago (Chile). The last event of the season in the calendar of Karate 1-Series A is scheduled to take place in Durban (South Africa) from September 11 to 13.

The World Karate Federation remains committed to maintaining the well-being of all the members of the Karate family.”
