The German Judo Federation informed the IJF that the Grand Slam at the beginning of June has to be cancelled.
“We very much regret that we cannot host the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf,” writes spokesman Frank Doetsch to the IJF.
The reason for the cancellation is mainly financial. COVID-19 restrictions in Germany allow a limited number of spectators and, of course, there will be less participants due to the restrictions in all of Europe and rest of the world.
“A higher level of debt than originally planned would not be justified to the German judoka, our members, and would not be accepted, especially since it would also put the association in financial difficulties for which we cannot be responsible,” Doetsch continues.
