Andre Ward: Yarde was 2-3 punches away from winning

Former two-weight world champion Andre Ward (32-0) shared his thoughts on the Sergey Kovalev (34-3-1) vs. Anthony Yarde (18-1) fight that took place this past weekend in Russia.

Even though the 28-year-old Brit lost the bout, the all-around opinion was that he fought an excellent fight. Kovalev won via 11th round TKO, but things could’ve gone in a whole different direction if Yarde was able to capitalize on his great performance in the 7th and 8th round.

Although Yarde suffered his first pro loss, fans and boxing pundits from everywhere were pleased with his effort and style and that maybe if he had a bit more luck he could’ve been the new WBO light heavyweight champion of the world.

“Anthony Yarde was 2-3 punches away from stopping Kovalev”, Ward said.

The “Son of God” knows exactly what it takes to beat the 36-year-old Russian. Ward’s last two pro fights were against Kovalev, as the American managed to win both of them.

“Yarde can fight, just needs to make adjustments with his camp. Respect to him. Kovalev proved he’s still got something left, but he needs to grab that Canelo money. At this point, every fight will be hard for him,” Ward added.
