Bernard Etoga has passed away

Bernard Sylvain Mvondo Etoga, born 4th May 4 1983 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, has passed away at the age of 37.

For years, Bernard Etoga has represented his country and Africa in the biggest international competitions. In 1997 he was a finalist at the Jeux de la Francophonie, while a few years later he won a medal at the Commonwealth Games (2002), in Manchester, UK.

Several times champion of Cameroon and champion of the tournament of the city of Yaoundé, it was in 2004 that he became African Champion and was named best African judoka. This result opened the doors to the Olympic Games in Athens.

The previous year, he had been a quarter-finalist at the world championships and participated in many world circuit tournaments including Paris, Düsseldorf, Munich and Osaka.

The judo family around the world joins the friends and family of Mr. Etoga in this sad time. We send our deepest condolences.
